Beaches and Islands Near Guangzhou and Shenzhen
Choose between an easy mainland coast break and an island stay that begins with a ferry.
Tickets, opening hours and event schedules may change. Check the venue or organiser's latest announcement before visiting.
Mainland bays
Jiaochangwei on Shenzhen's Dapeng Peninsula offers guesthouses, restaurants and access to Dapeng Fortress. It is convenient for a sociable weekend, but popular dates can be busy. Judiaosha is highlighted for its curved beach and greener surroundings, while Yangmeikeng offers a rockier coastline and views toward Luzui.
In Huizhou, Xunliao Bay combines beaches and resort hotels. Double Moon Bay is known for the paired curves seen from above. Select accommodation for the actual beach or viewpoint you want rather than assuming the whole coast is walkable.
Zhuhai's islands
Dong'ao Island combines beaches, wooded paths and historic remains. The source highlights Nansha Bay and walks toward Honeymoon Pavilion and coastal viewpoints. Wailingding offers a compact harbour village, rocky shores and a climb toward Lingding Peak.
Both need ferry planning. Confirm the departure port, return sailing and luggage arrangements before booking a room. A published timetable in an older guide is not a guarantee of today's service.
Smaller island options
Sanmen Island is described as a more rustic trip, with beaches and remnants of its former military role. Sanjiaozhou Island off Xunliao Bay is a managed resort island with separate access arrangements. Use authorised transport and confirm current visitor access rather than relying on informal boat offers.
Before committing
Weather can interrupt sailings and sea activities. Check the cancellation policy, arrange your return journey and bring sun protection and suitable footwear. Swim only where conditions and local supervision permit; a picturesque stretch of coast is not automatically a safe swimming beach.
