Huacheng Square forms the central axis of Zhujiang New Town, developed as a new city center around the turn of the 21st century. Guangzhou's eastward and riverside expansion transformed this area into a concentration of business, culture and public space.

Guangdong Museum, Guangzhou Library and Guangzhou Opera House cluster around the square, with Haixinsha, the river and office towers beyond. Their scale and open setting reflect a different planning approach from the older districts of Yuexiu and Liwan.

Huacheng Square expresses modern Guangzhou through its cultural buildings, urban axis and waterfront spaces. Compare it with Beijing Road or Chen Clan Ancestral Hall to see how the city's form has changed across different periods.
