Where to Pitch a Day Tent in Guangzhou's Parks

Use a designated area

The city's shared green-space list identifies particular lawns, not blanket permission to camp anywhere in a park. These are daytime recreation areas within park opening hours. The source specifies family tents smaller than 5 square metres and no more than 1.5 metres high, without ground pegs.

Keep the tent sufficiently open for park staff to see inside. Smoking, cooking and loud noise inside tents are prohibited. Follow local signs, avoid commercial activity and leave the grass as you found it. Access can change for lawn maintenance or events.

Baiyun Mountain and central Guangzhou

The list includes Yiyuan and the sausage-tree lawn at Yuntai Garden; Keqi lawn in Mingchungu; Niuling, Mingzhu Lake and Songtao lawns in Mingzhulou; the west lawn of Sculpture Park; and Jufang Garden lawn in Luhu Park.

In Yuexiu, designated lawns are listed at Chuanqi Park and Guangzhou Development Park. Tianhe options include Zhujiang Park, the central lawn, greenhouse savanna, waterside pavilion and gymnosperm woodland areas of South China National Botanical Garden, and the A and B sections of Huolushan Forest Park. Haizhu's list includes the lawn at Exhibition Park; Liwan's includes Zengbu Park and Dashahe Wetland Park.

Baiyun and Huangpu

Maofeng Mountain lists the Red Maple Garden lawn and Elaeocarpus woodland. Baiyun Lake's East Lake has designated areas around Baiyun Pavilion, the Huanjiao waterway buildings, north entrance, Friendship Forest, dragon-boat viewing platform and Hengbo Pavilion. West Lake areas include the north entrance, pocket park, Haikou sluice buildings and the stretch from the science station to the inlet. Huangbian and Hebian parks also have listed lawn or woodland areas.

Huangpu options are the northern plum-grove lawn at Xiangxue Park; lawns by Luohan and Jingxin pavilions at Huasheng Park; the football-field surroundings at Innovation Park; the lawn south of Huangpu Park's north square; the Lingyu Road–Lanyue Road slope at Shiziling Park; the entrance lakeside lawn at Yingcui Park; the corridor-side lawn at Civic Square; and the lawn opposite Longtoushan Forest Park's entrance.

Huadu and Panyu

Huadu lists the banana-grove lawn in Huadu Lake National Wetland Park and the western lawn at Tianmahe Park. Panyu lists areas around Juxiu Lake, Baihua Garden, Hongshan Lake and its central island, and Cuijing Lake at Dafushan Forest Park; Sunshine Lawn at Panyu Children's Park; the north reservoir at Jinshan Lake Cultural Park; the sculpture-garden stretch of University Town's riverside greenbelt; and Bauhinia Garden at University Town Central Lake Park.

Nansha

Nansha Children's Park lists lawns near the seahorse maze and water-play beach. Jiaomen Park includes the Guangzhou Foreign Language School and Binhai Garden stretches in its southern section, plus the west bank on the Huangge side. Large lawns at Lvzhou and Hudiezhou parks are also listed.

At Lingshan Island Tip, the list covers the urban living-room lawn, French garden, sea-view lawn, tidal platform, waterfall square, art boardwalk and Silk Road Square, community sports park, shaded square and Yingbo Blue Bridge, and the Breeze Terrace lawn.

Zengcheng and Conghua

Zengcheng options include Shuiweng and Conghua Valley at Baijianghu Forest Park, Lihu Park, Civic Square, Wuyou Garden's woodland, Longshan Ancient Tree Park, and the large lawn between Wantian Ecological Park's car park and Yinghua Lake.

Conghua lists the former forest-flower and deer-park lawns in Liuxihe National Forest Park, its service station, the small woodland by Tianchi Flower Sea and Shimen Xiangxue at Shimen National Forest Park, and designated grassland at Fengyunling Forest Park. Check the exact permitted patch on arrival.
