Six Banyan Temple takes its name from an inscription associated with the Song-dynasty writer Su Shi. Its Flower Pagoda has long been a landmark of Guangzhou's old city.

The temple has been rebuilt and altered many times. The pagoda, once especially prominent before the age of high-rise buildings, connects religious history with the surrounding streets.

Compact but rich in history, Six Banyan Temple can be paired with Guangxiao Temple and Beijing Road to see how religious life fits into the everyday old city.
