Updating the weather…

Lizhi Bay grew within western Guangzhou's network of canals. Lychee trees once lined the banks, while waterways linked villages, gardens and trading spaces. The area became a defining image of the city's waterside life.

Some canals were covered or lost their earlier functions as the city grew. Later environmental work and heritage protection restored parts of the waterways, reconnecting Pantang, old bridges, temples and lanes as public spaces.

Lizhi Bay brings the old relationship between city, water and village into view. Walking on to Pantang Wuyue, Renwei Ancestral Temple and Yongqing Fang reveals Xiguan as a network of communities and waterways.
